Casa Barragán
Precedent Study

PRECIDENT STUDY: CASA BARRAGÁN Built in Mexico City In 1947, the Casa Barragán was built by Architect Luis Barragan for himself as part of a neighborhood development of Tacubaya. Barragán designed his house to be a place of solitude and achieved this by building high walls with small high windows. The building is divided by the large open library and living room that was later transformed into smaller intimate spaces by adding half-wall partitions and folding screens. Left of the library is the living quarters of Barragán and his servants. On the right of the library are Barragán’s studio and offices. Above all of this are the roof terraces with high walls that only permit a view of the sky and the trees that hang over them from the garden behind.
