STUDIO II

FALL 2022

PROJECT ONE

CONNECT THE CORNERS OF THE ISLAND.
This design proposes building a New Chapel at the southern corner of the island that references the architectural context of the island. This new chapel will serve as a place of gathering and contemplation for people of all faiths; thus there is no religious iconography. The front facade of the church will be made of white marble, with the rest of the exterior walls being made of brick, referencing the material palette of the church. Whereas the pilasters of the old church at the top of the island are Composite, the highest and slenderest classical order, the new chapel’s pilasters will be Tuscan, the lowest and most robust classical order. These elements, among others, connect the corners of the island visually.

This project was designed in collaboration with Faith Nyholt, a fellow architecture student at Wentworth, however the featured drawings were drawn by me.
